Optical Coherence Tomography and Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography in Optic Nerve Disorders
Abstract
Optic nerve disorders encompass a wide range of diseases. While it may be an isolated disease, such as optic disc drusen, it may also occur as a symptom of pathology in the central nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an important auxiliary test used in optic nerve disorders as it allows cross-sectional imaging of the retina and optic nerve head at high resolution. OCT is used in the diagnosis of optic nerve disorders, evaluation of response to treatment, and prediction of visual prognosis by measuring retinal layers such as the ganglion cell layer (GCL) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL).
