Paraneoplastic Optic Neuropathy
Abstract
The paraneoplastic syndrome may occur in tissues that are distant from the primary malignancy or its metastasis and may include various signs and symptoms. It can negatively affect ocular tissues, which may threaten visual acuity, especially if it affects the retina and optic nerve. When it impacts the optic nerve, it is called paraneoplastic optic neuropathy. PON is a rare, subacute and progressive disease that can frequently affects both eyes. Its signs and symptoms can be very similar to other types of optic neuritis, which can lead to confusion and misdiagnosis. In this study, we aimed to outline the clinical features, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management of PON.
