Vitreoretinal Surgery in Retinopathy of Prematurity

In this article, vitreoretinal surgical procedures applied for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) are discussed in comparison with indications such as traction retinal detachments (tRDs), secondary to other ischemic neovascular proliferative retinopathies such as proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR). Thus, by comparing the clinical features of ROP, the rationale of vitreoretinal surgical procedures applied, and the currently accepted pathogenetic hypotheses with the clinical features and vitreoretinal surgery procedures of other ischemic neovascular proliferative retinopathies as PDR, a determination of why the accepted pathogenetic hypotheses of ROP are wrong and what is the correct pathogenesis has been made.
