Vitreoretinal Interface Diseases and Cataract: Treatment Strategies and Current Approaches

This article will review vitreomacular interface diseases and their treatments, including vitreomacular adhesion, vitreomacular traction, epiretinal membrane, lamellar macular hole and full-thickness macular hole. The surgical treatment plan for cases with cataract in addition to vitreoretinal interface diseases will be discussed, considering novel literature data. The advantages and disadvantages of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) and cataract surgery (phacoemulsification), performed simultaneously (phaco-PPV) or sequentially, will be evaluated.
