Cataract in Eyes with Central Serous Chorioretinopathy and Pachychoroid Spectrum: Treatment Strategies and Current Approaches

Pachychoroid spectrum diseases define a group of disorders characterized by choroidal thickening and various alterations in the retinal pigment epithelium. The disease group includes pachychoroid pigment epitheliopathy, central serous chorioretinopathy, pachychoroid neovasculopathy, and polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy. Cataract is a common age-related condition that impairs vision and requires surgical intervention as its sole effective treatment. This surgery, which is increasingly performed today, may give rise to specific management requirements in both the preoperative and postoperative periods in individuals with pachychoroid spectrum disease. In this review, the pathophysiology and clinical features of pachychoroid spectrum disorders, as well as the potential risks and management strategies associated with cataract surgery in these patients, are discussed.
